DIY Hot Cocoa Party

DIY Hot Cocoa Party for the busy mama!

Looking for a fun party idea that is good for all ages and can really bring out some holiday spirit?

Look no farther than a DIY hot cocoa party! It’s a simple reason to get together and can be put together quickly without a ton of effort. Just what a mama needs in the middle of such a crazy, busy season! Pair this with a Holiday Lights Walk around your neighborhood and it’s a fun night out with minimal cleanup! What more can we ask for?

The best part about this type of party is that it can be as fancy or as laid back as you want. You can do it all yourself, or you can ask people to bring desserts and/or other things to help out. And mama, at this time of year, take any help you can get!

You can have a whole hot chocolate bar with various toppings, flavors, cute cups, and all sorts of other things set out for your guests.

You can go bare minimum and just serve hot chocolate.

You can have a slow cooker with homemade hot chocolate or hot water with packets of hot chocolate. There are so many ways to do it and really, any way you do it is a great way. The event is simply to get together over a hot cup of chocolate.

Here is what I have done for an easy DIY hot cocoa party in the past:

I ask everyone to bring their own mug. This helps cut down on your responsibilities, people don’t get their drinks mixed up, and it’s much more eco-friendly.

Everyone brings their favorite holiday dessert to share. It’s great to see what people’s favorite desserts are during the holidays and to try new things!

Use a slow cooker or InstantPot to keep your cocoa in. It keeps it warm and is easy to transport if you’re doing it at a location other than your house.

Mason jars are fabulous to keep cocoa toppings in! We all have a few mason jars hanging out, so put them to use! Some fun toppings are crushed candy canes, chocolate (because chocolate and chocolate is delicious), cinnamon sticks, cayenne pepper (to make Mexican hot chocolate), sprinkles, whipped cream, and of course, marshmallows.

Play holiday music to set the vibe. You always need a good playlist!

Throw some tree cuttings and LED candles around for an easy festive look. So easy, but really makes a huge difference!

Hold it in your garage. No, I’m serious. Pull a table out, throw on a tablecloth, bring out all your stuff, and just enjoy the crisp air. You won’t even have to clean your house!

If you’re thinking having it in your garage is crazy, try your porch, front yard, or driveway. It’s a great way to meet (and invite) neighbors and make some new friends.

THEN–

Go look at the lights! Start in your garage (or outdoor area) and make your way around the neighborhood. Bring your cocoa with you and just enjoy this simple event and the joy it brings you. Kids love looking at lights, and it’s a great way to have a low key night with your friends while celebrating the season.

Hello!

Avatar for ApronWarriorI’m Carolann and I’m obsessed with food. Seriously, I live and sleep thinking about food. I’m on a mission to create doable, real food recipes
from scratch as well as living a more natural life style. I also believe that life should be celebrated and one of the best ways to do that is around a dinner table with friends and family (+ a game for some extra bits of laughter and edge of your seat competition). If you’re new here, I invite you to check out some of my favorite recipes or my story that lead me to real food.
